Joseph H. LemkinJoseph H. Lemkin is a member of Parker Ibrahim & Berg LLC, where he is Chairman of the bankruptcy practice group. Mr. Lemkin's practice primarily focuses in the areas of bankruptcy law, commercial litigation, business reorganization and related matters, with a particular emphasis on creditors' rights. Mr. Lemkin has worked on behalf of a variety of clients, including secured creditors, creditors' committees, bankruptcy trustees, debtors and trade creditors, representing such clients in litigation matters, assignments for the benefit of creditors and chapters 7, 13 and 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Mr. Lemkin also has extensive experience representing mortgage lenders in both consumer and commercial bankruptcy proceedings, as well as in contested foreclosure proceedings in state court.

 

Mr. Lemkin has defended and prosecuted numerous adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court, including preference, fraudulent transfer and other avoidance actions. His experience led to his representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in a high profile bankruptcy case, which involved over 400 properties throughout the United States. Mr. Lemkin has also served as national litigation/bankruptcy counsel to a major financial lending institution regarding a portfolio of loans to healthcare providers, including medical, dental and veterinary practices. This representation has included a myriad of proceedings such as restructurings, commercial debt-collection litigation, replevin and foreclosure actions throughout the country. He has also served as national bankruptcy counsel to an international consumer products company, including numerous representations in high-profile cases pending in the Southern District of New York and Delaware.

 

Mr. Lemkin also serves on numerous boards, specifically aimed at giving back to the community. He currently sits on the board of the Rutgers University Alumni Association and is an executive board member of the Rutgers Touchdown Club for the last10 years. He served as the club's president for four years, where he led numerous charitable endeavors, including support for the Integrity House in Newark, New Jersey, a substance abuse rehabilitation center. Mr. Lemkin has also been a part of the football Hall of Fame committee and the athletic department's annual Knights of Networking event. For his efforts and service, Mr. Lemkin was honored by the Rutgers University with its Block R Award in 2009.


Prior to joining Parker Ibrahim and Berg LLC, Mr. Lemkin was a partner with Duane Morris LLP, where he was a member of the Business Reorganization Practice Group. Mr. Lemkin is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and is is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. Lemkin is a graduate of Hofstra University School of Law, where he was awarded the Charles Falabella Labor Studies Award. Mr. Lemkin received his BA degree from Rutgers College.
